Me

My name is Deric John Tan, but I fill up most of my application forms with Deric J. Tan because I can.

I was born in Seoul, South Korea 27 years ago, moved to Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei almost immediately, and then to Petaling Jaya, Malaysia about 2 years later, and then to Johor Bahru about 7 years later. At this point, I was 10 years old. 8 years later at age 18, I moved to Melaka to study, and another 4 years later, I moved back to Petaling Jaya for the money. Life sometimes is a vicious cycle indeed.

I have been blogging for about 7 years. Whether I have been actively blogging is rather questionable, although each time I blog, I do try to give my very best.

The girlfriend’s a lovely lass named Susanna Khoo who writes for a living, and for fun as well. You can check out some of her work here.

I love music. I played keyboards in a band called PG165. We had a single played on radio, and we actually reached no. 7 on the charts. (Bucket list no. 16). I play the guitar and bass as well, but seriously, my playing makes Rebecca Black look like a musical genius.

I love a band called Coldplay,  and a football club called Liverpool FC – Both of whom I had the pleasure of watching live in our region.

I consider my 1.5 months of quitting my job to backpack New Zealand one of my greatest travel feats. Backpacking WITH my girlfriend was the greatest one.

According to this website, I’ve visited 10 countries, which accounts for 4.44% of the world. Too little, but not too late. My next aim is to bring myself to Europe. Then I can die happy.

Enough about me, even if you have a serious urge to revisit this ‘Me’ page again and again, information which I won’t be too surprised with.

To friends, family and life. Now give me a hypothetical high 5.
